We hope you can join us as we dive deep into the art and craft of botanical medicine. Whether you aspire to create your own apothecary as a practicing herbalist or simply to provide simple and safe remedies for your family and friends, this comprehensive course will give you the confidence to begin your journey.
Herbalista has been crafting herbal remedies for over 2 decades and is thrilled to share what we’ve learned over the years with you all!
Class Description 💚
Now’s the time to learn to make your own herbal medicine! This online class dives deep into a variety of techniques and methods to create potent plant remedies and is appropriate for beginners or for folks wanting to acquire new skills.
We will be covering a wide array of preparations, including:
- Tincture Extraction: Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Preparations; Maceration; Percolation; Hot Glycerite Extraction; Working with Fresh and Dry Plants
- Water Medicine: Teas, Decoctions, and Syrups; Basic Hydrotherapy including preparing Isotonic Solutions, Steams, Compresses, etc.
- Oil-Based Medicine: Infused Oils, Salves and Ointments
- Hydrosol Distillation
- Other Goodies: Aromatic Inhalers; Herbal Candy
To assist you beyond our 25 hours of class time, we will provide extensive handouts including worksheets, recipes, and other instructional resources.
This course is held via Zoom. All classes will be recorded and made available for you to review at your leisure.
About the Instructors 💚
Lorna Mauney-Brodek is a traveling herbalist, medicine maker, wildcrafter and teacher. The founder of the Herbalista Free Clinic, she is dedicated to building community through herbalism. Lorna believes that in order to preserve our access to herbs as medicine we have to use them, plant them, eat them, preserve them, dream them, and share them!
Marie-Lies is a manager at the Herbalista Free Clinic. She makes skincare products using local plants she forages around the city and in her backyard. Her most current passion has been to distill her yard and use the hydrosols in her face creams and face toners. Her passion for medicine making makes her a talented steward of the mother dispensary at Herbalista HQ.

The class fees are based on a sliding scale as we try our best to make this offering accessible to all. Please place yourself where you feel comfortable, and remember your support helps to fund others who might be experiencing financial difficulties during these trying times.

Herbalista offers a variety of classes and learning opportunities. Some are online and some are in person. Some are free and some are sliding scale. This diversity is what keeps Herbalista strong!
