Health Fair
Community Health Fair
2015 – 2020
For 5 years, Herbalista offered a monthly community health fair in Atlanta, Georgia. On the last Wednesday of the month, folks came from all over Atlanta for free health services, wellness classes and a delicious spot of tea!
Although the Herbalista Health Fair has ended, we hope that it can still serve as an example of what a community can do when it comes together in service. We now use this page to share with you the resources we used to create this event each month. Below you will find volunteer organizational documents, marketing examples and descriptions, and packing lists– basically the things we used to build our fair and keep it running!
Stone Soup
It’s amazing what a community can do when it comes together. When everyone gives a little time, brings their energy and love, and shares a few resources, we end up with something pretty spectacular.
A big shout out to all of the people who came together each month and made this health fair what it was.
- Thanks to our hosts at the Big House and Mercy Community
- Thanks to all the practitioners who gave their time and energy to serve with us
- Thanks to the teachers who shared their knowledge with the community
- Thanks to the organizers and hosts and bus drivers who held the space and kept the vessel steady and safe
- And finally, thanks to all the apprentices, Herb Cart Crew Members, and friends who showed up time and again to serve at this little fair!
Packing Lists
We always make a list and check it twice.

Health Fair Packing List (Simple)Volunteer Coordination
There would be no health fair without our volunteers! At each month’s fair, we could have anywhere between 10-20 volunteers. Some folks were offering services (like acupuncture or working the Herb Bus), some were teaching classes, some were serving as hosts and some would help with the tea station and self-care station.
It is helpful to have one person serving as the coordinator of all of these moving parts. The coordinator wrangles the volunteers each month, filling out the sheet you see on page two of the Volunteer and Service Coordination List linked below. Around two weeks before each fair, we would send the call for volunteers (using either email, WhatsApp, or a private Facebook Group).
One of the most beautiful thing about the health fair, beyond simply the services folks received, was the strong and healing web that we weaved between all the volunteers and service providers. Atlanta became a stronger place due to those new linkages.

In addition to pulling together the volunteers, the service offerings and or classes, it’s important to get the word out. How do you let folks know your offerings are available? There are loads of ways to spread the word, from online to posters around town.
